I can excuse everything but boredom. Boring people don't have to stay that way.

Hedy Lamarr has been a wonder to me since I found out that she was an inventor. She didn't fit into one box. She was a beautiful actress, creative person, and serial bride.
Hedy also said, "I don't have to work on ideas, they come naturally." This is an interesting concept. Would this mindset work for everyone? Are some people more creative than others? Survey says: YES. But WHY are they more creative? Have less creative people been taught not to see how to improve things? Do they lack confidence in their abilities and ideas? At least for some people, I believe this is true. A little confidence goes a long way.
Hedy's success seems to stem from the fact that she doesn't seem to have been constrained by convention, but the question is 'why?'. She was fortuitous in that she was successful. Yes, fortuitous. A recent study unveils the role of luck in success. I haven't seen the documentary about her ( Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story ), but I wonder if she is like many other successful people in that she had "a chip on her shoulder." But how does this play into her success? Luck, making connections, inquisitive, insightful, and something to prove with a dollop of "I can do anything?"
I am generally happy, but I am not a person that my peers would classify as a "success." I love teaching. I have many good (and some great) ideas that set me apart. Maybe I don't have "luck. (or maybe I don't know how to make luck ). Maybe I have lost the "grit."
Lordy, this has become maudlin.
The reason I got on this track this morning is that normally I have a large shed full of ideas to blog about. But this morning - just dearth.
And yet, when I got to writing this entry I didn't have a problem with ideas. Maybe the whole trick is to WORK. Put down the phone. Turn off the TV. Put the computer or any other source of distraction to sleep.
This, in my roundabout way of thinking, reminds me of a self-help course I took, gosh, 20 years ago. The speaker said, "If you want to make a $100,000 a year, stop doing things that won't bring in that money. Any job that pays less that $50 an hour, stop doing it. Do something that will make that much money."
The Story and The Book aren't going to write themselves. Time to get into action and value my time. I believe that by trying something new a person is taking a giant step to being less boring. Don't believe in the labels people and YOU put on yourself and get working!
Gratitudes: Balconies, expensive socks, mushrooms.
